Creating An Email Signup Form within a Landing Page in Shogun
You certainly don’t need to be a web design expert to make an email signup landing page — not when you have Shogun on your side. To do so, simply follow these steps:
After downloading and installing Shogun, select the “Apps” option in the left sidebar of the main Shopify dashboard.
Open Shogun.
Go to the “Pages” section of the Shogun app and hover your mouse over the “Build or edit a page” option — this will open a dropdown menu, where your choices include “Start from scratch” and “Browse our templates”.
Whether you choose to create your own fully custom design or save time by using a template, your new page will now be opened in Shogun’s visual editor.
In the visual editor’s element library, you’ll find all the features you need to build your landing page. There’s an entire section of elements just for creating forms, including:
Form Box: Add this element to the exact place on the page where you would like your form to be located. Then, you can drag and drop the elements mentioned below into the Form Box to build your custom form. You’ll be able to choose which email address the form submissions are sent to, and you can customize the content and style of your form’s success and error messages as well.
Text Input: This element adds a space on the form where the visitor can input text. You can choose the font and size of the text, and there are several options for the size of the text input field itself.
Dropdown: You can add a dropdown menu to your form, allowing the visitor to choose from a series of predetermined input options.
Check Box: You can also add a series of labeled checkboxes to your form, allowing the visitor to decide whether or not they want to select each option.
Radio Button: Radio buttons are similar to check boxes, except that they allow visitors to select only one option from a list of different choices.
Submit Button: You can customize your submit button’s font, text size, text color, background color, border thickness, and more. You can also set it up so that the button style changes when the visitors clicks on the button or hovers their cursor over it.
ReCaptcha: Shogun’s reCAPTCHA v2 integration prevents bots from using your form, reducing spam and protecting you from malware.
It’s also worth mentioning that Shogun has a built-in integration with Klaviyo. If you’re already using this solution for your email marketing needs, you’ll be able to send your Shogun form submissions directly to your Klaviyo account rather than an email address. In other words, the email signups will flow into your Klaviyo backend without any manual importing needed.
Once you’ve finished designing your form, you can use the other options available in the element library to add anything else you might need for the other parts of the page, such as a full-width image background and headings and text for your supporting content.
Personalizing the Copy on the Page to Increase Conversion Rates
There are many different customer types and personas who might end up on your Shopify email signup landing page, each with their own set of needs and preferences.
It’s difficult to speak to all of these personas with one page variant — attempting to do so will often result in muddled messaging that attempts to appeal to everyone.
Thankfully, this isn’t necessary. Shogun’s Personalization feature allows you to speak to many different groups at the same time by delivering unique page variants to multiple shopper segments.
For example, if you’re using a sponsored TikTok post to send traffic to your landing page, you might want to change up the content that these particular visitors see in order to appeal to a younger demographic. You can do this in Shogun by following these steps:
Open Shogun and go to the “Pages” section of the app.
Click on the page that you would like to personalize — this will open up the page in Shogun’s visual editor.
Once the page is open in the visual editor, click on the “Personalization” button located near the top-right corner of your screen.
Select “Turn on personalization”.
In the “Segment shoppers by:” section, select “Referrer”. Enter “tiktok.com” into the domain field, then select “Add variant”.
You’ll see that a tab has been added in the visual editor for this new variant of the page, allowing you to toggle between the two different variants and make edits as needed. Customize each variant, save your changes, and then publish the experience.
After completing this process, the variant of the page you designed for a younger demographic will now be displayed to visitors from TikTok, while everyone else will still be shown the original version of the page.
Also, there are several other types of conditions that you can use to create personalized experiences in Shogun, including the day of the week, the time of day, whether the visitor has been to your site before, and the visitor’s physical location.
Tips for Increasing the Conversion Rate of Your Email Signup Landing Page
We’ll leave you with a few of the most effective techniques for designing a high-converting email signup landing page:
Keep it simple: The less effort it takes to fill out and submit your form, the more likely it is that the visitor will actually do so. Don’t add any form fields that aren’t absolutely necessary. And whenever possible, you should offer pre-determined input options like checkboxes, radio buttons, etc. instead of forcing the visitor to manually write it out.
Make it mobile-friendly: These days, mobile devices are used to browse the internet much more often than desktops. If you’re not providing a good mobile experience, then a lot of people who may have otherwise become customers will just back out of your site instead. To ensure that mobile visitors are able to easily navigate your landing page, you must make your text and CTA buttons large enough for the relatively small screens of smartphones and tablets.
Add an incentive: It’s quite possible that a given visitor will be invested enough in your brand to sign up for your newsletter without any sort of incentive. However, many others may need a little push. If it works financially, consider tying an exclusive offer to your form submissions, such as free shipping or a steep discount. Another effective strategy is to provide a high-quality piece of content in exchange for the visitor’s email address, such as an ebook or original case study.
Label your CTA button: By default, the text on Shogun’s Submit Button element reads “Submit”. Replacing this default text with something more specific, such as “Sign up”, will help keep the visitor focused on the exact action that you want them to take. Subtle changes like this can end up having a significant impact on your landing page’s conversion rate.
With Shogun’s visual editor at hand and these tips in mind, you’ll be able to make your email signup landing pages much more effective.
